Challenge

A New Way to Try On Clothes Online

The client wanted to move online fashion shopping beyond static product images and size charts. The goal was a virtual fitting room experience that would let shoppers evaluate clothing in a more personal and visual way — without visiting a physical store.

The solution needed to run reliably across desktop, tablet, and mobile, reach shoppers wherever they browsed. It also had to be designed with integration in mind, so it could connect with existing e-commerce platforms rather than operate as a standalone product. The overall experience needed to feel approachable for everyday shoppers, not just technically inclined users.

Solution

Building a 3D Virtual Fitting Experience

Alverden built a web-based application where shoppers create a personalized 3D avatar — a virtual replica they can dress and style. Once created, the avatar becomes the persistent context for trying on clothing: users browse items and see them rendered on their replica rather than on a generic model.

The application supports multiple viewing modes, allowing shoppers to see a garment in a static pose or in a more dynamic context to better understand fit and movement. This additional layer of evaluation addresses one of the core friction points in online fashion — uncertainty about how something will actually look when worn.

To extend engagement beyond the individual shopping session, the app includes sharing functionality. Shoppers can send their assembled looks to social media or messaging apps, turning outfit selection into a social activity and creating an organic discovery channel for the client. The interface was designed to feel intuitive throughout — keeping the focus on the outfit, not the tooling.

Capabilities

What We Delivered

Four core capabilities that defined the product and shaped the shopper experience.

3D Avatar Creation

Shoppers can build a personalized virtual replica and reuse it across sessions. The avatar serves as the foundation for trying on different clothing items without leaving the browser.

Multi-Device Virtual Try-On

The application runs consistently on desktop, tablet, and smartphone. Shoppers get the same core experience regardless of device, with no separate native app required.

Flexible Viewing Modes

Users can switch between static poses and more dynamic viewing options to see how a garment fits and moves. This helps shoppers evaluate fit and style in a more informed way than static product images allow.

Social Sharing of Looks

Selected outfits can be shared directly to social media and messaging apps. This adds a discovery and engagement layer that extends the experience beyond the product page.

Outcomes

How It Helped the Client

The delivered application gave the client a working product they could put in front of shoppers and investors alike. Beyond the end-user experience, it served as a concrete demonstration of what avatar-based shopping could look like — supporting the client's conversations about the product's commercial potential and next development phases.

  • Enabled an interactive, try-before-you-buy experience for online shoppers.
  • Gave the client a tangible, working product to showcase in investor and partner presentations.
  • Created a foundation suitable for integration with e-commerce platforms.
  • Demonstrated how 3D and avatar-based experiences can complement traditional online catalog browsing.
